AUREILA FIGHTS THE SUN
Aureila fights the Sun is an abstract short film based on a short story I wrote by the same name. It is a story about a young writer who gets possessed by the demon banned from the Sun kingdom, Aureila. Through the context of the film I am finding ways to blur reality and imagination. This project explores the themes of family dynamics, power struggles, friendship, rebellion, and religion. I am experimenting with lights, sound mixing, color dynamics, film equipment, and my creative writing skills. I often have things that I daydream about, so putting them on film and actually creating a dream-like, color exploded experience has always been something I have wanted to do. Usually I tell myself to not have certain thoughts and push them down to not disrupt my daily routine of work and school, but this project coming into fruition has provided time to bring those urges and dream-like sequences to life through film. I have lots of weird and unusual aspects of the film that I have studied from the directors and scriptwriters that have come before me. My main influences for this project are, Diablo Cody, West Craven, Donald Glover, and Amiri Bakkara to name a few. They have all inspired me with their creativity and weirdness. Along with their passion to challenge the social system as it relates to gender, race, sexuality, and overall the human experience. Through creative writing and striking images, there is a blur of realism with fun and unique themes that I want to carry on in my filmmaking.(to gather in conversation) · Senior Capstone Projects · June 2025
