Third Time’s the Charm is a three-part installation exploring the relationship between Reality, Virtual Reality, and the space in between—and how we navigate them. In no particular order: First, I’ll be creating mixed-media pieces that highlight the contrast in their modes of production—some handmade, others generated by computer. Despite their different origins, each begins in someone’s imagination, and now, regardless of method, they coexist in the same space.
Second, I’ll present a small demo game: a recreated version of campus that embraces a virtual space. This continues the compare/contrast theme—each component of the game was developed in a different digital environment, yet they all come together under a single file. There’s a certain beauty—or irony—in how virtual creations and real, physical creations relate to one another.
Finally, there’s a piece representing the space between these realities: what I call the Digital Mirror. It takes a more tongue-in-cheek approach to how we interact with technology. A backlit mirror outfitted with sliders, buttons, and switches invites interaction—not to provide answers, but to provoke questions. Questions that lead to my central reflection on these layered realities:
“Like in the real world, some things just exist.”
