Imagine the Scales Won’t Hurt You

For Imagine the Scales Won’t Hurt You, I’ve set the table with images that take up the space inside my body and sustain me as much (if not more) than the food I choose to eat. As a shameless fat woman, I have faced continuous speculation about my diet from strangers. The aim is to connect consumption– both positive and negative connotations of that loaded word– to my imagination and memory. Colorful, lovingly crafted images ranging from more literal depictions of food to illustrations of my beautiful experiences in my beautiful body and loving community.

Being originally from the midwest, the ocean is a rare and cherished backdrop to a select few memories, and for this project will serve as a backdrop to the themes I am exploring. Sometimes, I know only the ocean is big enough to carry what I am. Sometimes, a dinner table has to be big enough.
