Translucent
My capstone project, Translucent, is a WYSO Community Voices series that shares stories from transgender people across the country. The goal of this project is to humanize the trans community, challenge harmful stereotypes, and start conversations about the wave of anti-trans legislation in today’s political climate. Through interviews with trans non-profit directors, politicians, advocates, and activists, Translucent shares the resilience and diversity within the community. Each episode centers on the personal stories of trans people and is shaped by the voices of people who are often excluded from mainstream narratives. For this project, I use audio journalism as a tool to build empathy, understanding, and change. Translucent grew from my personal experience as a trans person and the issues that I noticed around misinformation and the lack of representation of trans people. I notice that projects like Translucent have become more urgent as anti trans legislation began to increase across the country, threatening safety, rights, and the visibility of trans people.
