A Historical and Cultural Analysis on Progress in Ohio’s Constitution Bill of Rights

When living in a state, it is important to know the constitutional laws and the context behind them. There are too many circumstances where the law is taken advantage of, looked at narrowly or taken out of context to produce an outcome that could yield negative consequences for the parties involved. In Ohio, I have witnessed many people being taken advantage of by people who know the law better. Therefore, in this paper I will provide the historical background for a few of amendments in the Ohio Constitutional Bill of Rights from its official conception in 1802, to the expanded version of 1912. In just over a hundred years of development and progression, the Bill of Rights went from being interpreted as narrowly as possible, only allowing certain people with power in society to reap the benefits of human rights, to the more progressive version, allotting human rights to all citizens. The history of these rights is filled with arguments for and against the progressive changes. However, through the power of the people and the push for human rights for all, the bill of rights we now enjoy today prevails, allowing everyone human rights. In order to keep this, the patterns and arguments of the people around this time give us a look into how progression was achieved and maintained, making it important for us to learn in order to keep providing rights to people. As well as this, the paper will provide an interesting historical perspective of the law, so the reader may apply it in a contemporary usage to be prepared for the need to use or maintain their human rights and the human rights of others.
