UNREMARKABLE consists of 4 major props that perform, each in their own videos, encasing the boring and stagnant parts of the workplace. Whether it be as a grocery store clerk or a long-haul truck driver, the capitalist world calls for you to work. Through an experimental lense, the videos I am showcasing present the parts of working that most glaze over and ignore. There are repetitive, tedious moments that just lack interest within the workplace. I want to bring to light these instances while also keeping a lighthearted and humorous tone. Each video has its own style and purpose, all varying in length. LABOR MEMORIES follows a Dollar Store cashier who is ringing up customers, eventually falling into the repetitive and almost hypnotising state of flow in the workplace. The film SUGAR illustrates the life of a house maid who lives to serve two older women in their home, specifically catching their curious routine around tea time. PROP RELATIONS is a commercial style short video focused on showcasing a brand new hand held mixer, ready to go out into the market. Tailored to kitchen use, this video exposes the main actress’s forbidden and confusing love with the commercials main product. Finally, TRUCKING targets long distance hauling and the emotional and physical labor that comes from a job that requires oneself to be uprooted. All of the props are created strictly from cardboard and various adhesives. Cardboard seemed like the most logical choice since its relationship to the workplace is extremely present. Along with the material being easily obtainable and economical, it allowed for flaws and roughness to be present with no obligation to be perfect. These are themes that all of my work presents.
